It’s hard to keep your momentum going sometimes – recently, I’ve been finding it really difficult to stay motivated to keep exercising and eating healthy. It happens to all of us – we’re only human! However, I’ve been trying to get myself back on track and these are the top 3 things I’ve found that work for me.
1. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR WORKOUTS
I used to keep a training diary on my blog and only decided to stop it recently, after the London Marathon as I thought I didn’t need it any more and because it would free up another blog posting spot in my schedule. However, I’ve found that it’s made me more complacent – I found that the diary was great for holding me accountable and keeping me on track and since stopping it, I found I wasn’t quite as on top of my workouts as I had been. Sure I was doing the FBG eGuide (another great way to keep on top of your workouts), but I found it hard to motivate myself. I’ve now gone back to tracking my workouts using a Google calendar, but a simple diary or just a pad of paper will do.
2. BUY HEALTHY FOOD
Now, this may sound like an obvious one but it’s also a great one. Buy healthy ingredients and then when you’re at home and wondering what to have for dinner, it’ll force you to eat healthy. Hit the fruit and veggies aisle first off and pack your basket with leafy greens, high-fibre carbs and anything else that takes your fancy. Not only does it save your health, but also your wallet – buying veggies is so much cheaper than buying ready-meals, and they last longer!
3. TRY NEW THINGS
Keep it fresh and exciting by trying new things – new exercises, new workout classes, new flavour combinations and new recipes all together. Try a new bootcamp class, or a new style of workout to keep your fitness regime on its toes. Not only does it shock your body, but it makes it fun again. It gives you the opportunity to find something new that you love or, alternatively, bring a friend and make it a social event, instead of just about the workout. I’m currently mixing up my workout routine by throwing in some BOOM cycle HIIT cardio and BePilates to help me stretch and tone.
Buy new ingredients or try new combinations and do the same with your food – eating the same old breakfast biscuits/rice cakes/chicken, rice and veggies can get reeeaaal boring real quick. Chuck in some new flavours (or a bit of nut butter) and mix it up to keep you excited about eating your healthy grub!
